Tom Landry and Autobiography - Football Dallas Cowboys

I just finished Tom Landry: An Autobiography and it was excellent.  I must admit I have always been a Dallas Cowboys fan since growing up in Texas and from the Dallas / Fort Worth area as a young child.  I also coach youth football and I love this book.  I am definitely a Landry guy!

..."if you want a football team to improve, you need to identify the areas in which you aren't as good and practice those."  Tom Landry

After finishing the Paterno autobiography last week, this autobiography is a little different in that its less about coaching and more about Coach's life but a more enjoyable read, probably for a Cowboy fan. I highly recommend Tom Landry: An Autobiography.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Scouting in Youth Football

I am sure many of you have never scouted another youth football team in preparation for your game against them.  I can't tell you how important scouting is to your season's success.  After you scout your first opponent and find out the benefits, you will be hooked.  I don't scout every team in my league but I usually scout the top 4 or 5 teams.

I recently bought Steve Belichick's Football Scouting Methods and it was an eye opener.  I was scouting with my own system, but Belichick's book goes into great detail about the methods of college and professional coaches.  The book was written in 1962 but the vast majority of information is relevant to youth football coaches.

I highly recommend the book.
